Gold! The cover photo is dramatic and impactful. The simple header "making it"— without any other text — keeps the cover uncluttered and the focus squarely on the photo. Well done!
A little can say a lot. And the simplicity of this design allows the strong photograph to convey lots of meaning: adventure, accomplishment, serenity, and of course the awesome beauty and power of this place. I'd love to send my kid there just so I could visit! It's also a very good photo technically speaking — there's detail in both the shadows and highlights. I love the scale of the girl to the boulders.

The artistic treatment of the cover photo is eye-catching. Along with the title of the cover story, it invites curiosity to read the article and learn more.
At first I responded negatively — too dark and then creepy — when I suddenly noticed the masked face. (I originally thought the child was facing outward.) It’s grown on me and its impression lingers. There's mystery there and has tapped into my imagination.

I know this capture has been done a lot but it's done well. The moment feels genuine, it conveys all the necessary elements: diversity, the school building, learning in nature, friendship and cooperation. I like the shallow depth of field, soft edges. Overall, it's appealing and polished.
